Billy Goodnick, Guest Ranter
Billy Goodnick wasn’t always a landscape architect specializing in affordable, low-water gardens in Santa Barbara CA. While enjoying a career as an LA studio drummer, he discovered the world of plants via bonsai and Japanese gardens. His studies in ornamental horticulture led to work in nursery sales, landscape installation, garden maintenance and design. Frustrated with his limited arsenal, he returned to school and earned a degree in landscape architecture, and then landed a sweet gig as City Landscape Architect for Santa Barbara.
Years later, in a parallel universe far, far way, he dove into freelance writing for national garden media like Sunset, Fine Gardening and Garden Design. And in 2013, he authored a highly popular book on residential landscape design: Yards: Turn Any Outdoor Space Into the Garden of Your Dreams, St. Lynn’s Press, and hit the national lecture circuit.
