I Feel Bad About My Neck.

Another sign that autumn is here:  the chickens have started their winter moult.  Poor Abigail is losing all her neck feathers at once. Very undignified.  Not to mention a little punk.

Don’t forget, feathers make great compost! A couple of my girls are thinning out as well. Great photo!

It was a funny book! Abigail is a lovely chicken!

My girls are molting now, too. Our black australorp lost all her neck feathers. We’ve been calling her Skeletor behind her back.

  5. I find her all the more beautiful for her awkward punk rock phase! 🙂

  6. Bizarre! Looks like someone stuck a hairbrush on the back of her neck. Like Kim said, it must be that awkward stage all girls go through!
